Healthy Natural Weight Loss Program

Here is the prescription for a healthy natural weight loss program.

1/ Eat natural, unprocessed foods.

2/ Exercise

3/ Herbal weight loss supplements.

Now, if it were just that simple everyone would be slim and trim. The truth is that sometimes the simplest things are the most difficult to implement.

Let's start with step 1. This actually contains several parts. First, the secret to losing weight and keeping it off does not involve dieting. Dieting and fad diets product a pendulum effect where you constantly lose weight and gain it back. With a healthy weight loss program what you wish to do is to change your eating habits permanently.

This may involve a little homework. For example, just about everyone knows that eating fast foods is not good for you and contributes to poor health and the gaining of weight. A good first step would be to cut out fast food restaurants. You will see a significant improvement from this alone. It is only a first step.

The important aspect of losing weight and regaining our health is learning what to eat. Personally, I prefer a vegetarian diet. I realize, however, that this does not appeal to everyone. Regardless, it is important to understand that whole grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds are the stable of our diets. The largest percentage of our diets should come from these food categories.

It is also important to consider that processed and prepared foods are not the best things for us to consume. An important lifestyle change is to purchase whole grains and fresh vegetables and then to prepare them from scratch. You may think that this is inconvenient and does not fit into your present lifestyle. What you have to stop and consider is what do you value, what is the most important to you? Your health and the health of your family depends upon what you eat. Food is the primary building block for our bodies and our health. As such, it should take priority over what we think we enjoy eating and where we eat it.

Step number 2 is exercise. Exercise ideally should be organic. What I mean by that is that walking, jogging, swimming or riding a bicycle is preferable to joining a gym.

Last we have herbal supplements. Why by no means necessary, herbal supplements can be a great way to kick start our weight loss regimen. This is a great way to break out of a plateau and to stimulate new results in your body. But abdominal exercises by themselves won't make you lose belly fat. A healthy effort in your diet is essential.

Although I love to go to the gym, I don't always have the time to. I usually have to do my stomach exercises, along with my cardiovascular workout, at home. At first it seemed a little difficult, but there are quite a few real effective programs available, that rely on simple body weight techniques, and the use of exercise balls. As a weight loss coach I speak will people regularly about their view and beliefs surrounding food and nutrition. It probably wont come as a surprise to hear there is a great deal of confusion around nutrition. Some common weight loss myths that people believe - which arent true!

Myth #1: Cutting down on portion size is the best way to lose weight. Not on its own. If you attempt to lose weight by just eating less, you are likely to gain the weight back. Lasting results will come from changing the types of foods you eat, not just the amounts.

Myth #2: Just cut out fat and youll lose weight. This approach to weight loss, popular in the 80s, simply doesnt work for most people. Even if a food is labeled fat-free, it can still be high in calories from sugar and hidden carbs. Effective weight loss comes from being mindful of your total calorie consumption as well as your fat intake.

Myth #3: Cutting calories causes your body to go into starvation mode and slows weight loss. This is untrue. Your bodys resting metabolic rate can vary by about 15%. Nevertheless, eating too few calories and an inadequate amount of protein can make you lose precious lean muscle mass, which will eventually slow metabolism, for the long term. Tips For Weight Loss

Dieting for weight loss is widespread among men and women. What people will do to lose weight is almost unbelievable. But we need to realize that dieting can be healthy or unhealthy.

I knew a man in his thirties who looked like the famous Charles Atlas. He was muscular, had a v-shaped chest down to his waist, and was trim. Yet one day he decided he was 5-pounds overweight, and could not stand it. He insisted that his doctor put him on a severe diet, and his doctor finally did though he did not like it. The result was that a few months later this young man died of cancer. Did the diet trigger cancer already present, or was it something new? I don't know, but I do know that diets can be harmful.

So some tips about dieting and weight loss can be helpful.

#1: To succeed at weight loss one must first be happy with them selves on the inside before the outside can be changed. If the inside person is unhappy with self then changing the outside will more likely fail.

#2: Keeping a food diary can be helpful. A daily record of your food intake can help you know if you are succeeding. It can also tell you where you may need to improve your diet.

#3: Do not weigh your self every day. That can be frustrating because the change each day is likely to be small, thus depressing, and suggest quitting. Weigh once or twice a week, for example, so you can see substantial change, therefore encouragement to keep on.

#4. Let family and friends know that you are dieting. They will be supportive and that will help. They will also admire you dieting rather than "shoving" unwanted food at you, tempting you to go off your diet.

#5: Lose weight with a partner. He or she can be a good friend, a spouse, or your children. Weight loss programs provide friends during the program, others in the same program, and that is good. But you need one person on the same dieting plan as you are, and exercise program, that you are comfortable with about the program. The two of you can discuss problems each may have, and encourage each other on a personal basis.

#6: Do not set impossible goals. It is healthier to lose weight gradually.

#7: Take time to learn about nutrition and exercise, and their affects on your body. Severe dieting and exercise can harm your health, thus having a good knowledge of nutrition, of nutrients, and how these and exercise working together affect your body, and your health will go about assuring a healthy and successful program.

#8: Be patient. Each person may lose weight by different amounts when on the same program. Do not let a slower weight loss depress and lead you to quitting. Patiently hand in there.

#9: Cut back on foods, dieting, gradually. If you cut back on foods drastically you may not get enough nutrients to stay healthy. And when you cut back drastically your metabolism may slow down preventing any real weight loss.

#10: If you set out to lose a few pounds you may not need to consult with your doctor at the start of a weight loss program. But if you intend to lose any substantial amount of weight be sure and consult with your doctor first. Have the doctor design the parameters of dieting, and exercise, specifically for you. Consulting with your doctor and avoid health problems for you, and better assure a successful program.

Successful weight loss begins in the mind for it is there that patience and sticking to it starts. Without that commitment weight loss is doomed to failure.

Safe weight loss starts with a visit to your doctor. That visit can avoid harm, and assure better success.

Need to Lose Weight? Try These Easy Diet Tips

- Forget what you know about eating three standard meals each day. When trying to lose weight, it is much more beneficial to eat smaller portions throughout the day instead of three large meals. Have a snack in the early afternoon and at night (if necessary) to curb hunger. This will be enough to curb hunger while still eating less than you normally would.

- Try eating slower; the faster you eat, the more food you will consume before you begin to digest it. Eating slower will allow you to feel full without overeating.

- Cut back on the sugar. Those sodas and energy drinks you have every day really add up. Try drinking a juice such as V8 or flavored water such as Propel. Or better yet, stock up on bottled water.

- In conjunction with the previous tip, dont eat before going to bed. Labeled as a myth, this actually does contribute to weight loss. Try not to eat any less than two hours before bed.

- Keep calories in mind when you go shopping. I know it can be a pain, but learn how to read nutrition labels and spend a little extra time doing so. You will be surprised to learn just what you have been eating, and it may just help modify your eating habits for the better.

- Make sure you get your minimum of eight glasses of water a day. Drinking water when you start to feel hungry can help you feel full and keep hunger at bay.

- You may want to consider taking a weight loss supplement coupled with your diet and proper exercise. Do your homework before you decide on one; there are numerous different diet pills that are designed to function in different ways. Pick one that helps curb hunger. This will enable you to eat less and assist in your long term weight loss.

Other herbs in this category include ginger, cinnamon, epimedium and eucommia bark. These herbs can also give a person an energy boost. This can encourage the person to remain consistent with his or her exercise routine. These herbs also encourage healthy digestion and generally make a persons metabolism run faster and more efficiently. This group of herbs can be particularly helpful for those people whose weight tends to accumulate around the abdomen.

The second exercise that you can do and have fun doing is walking because it is great to go walking with a friend and just get everything that you have to off your back. Sometimes you just need someone to talk and listen to and it is easy so you can find a lot of friends to go walking with you.

The third exercise that you can do which is really fun is swimming because it is great to get in the pool and splash around. While you're splashing you're working out you arms to a tie. Another thing that you can do is thread water while you're in the pool and try to stay afloat this be tough and really challenge your stamina.

It is also really fun when you have a friend to go swimming with because you two can race each other laps. This is really fun because of the competitive spirit that all of us have in us to be the best. I tend to never want to lose at anything and give one hundred and ten percent with everything that I do.

Testing the Cabbage Soup Diet - Day 1

Today, as promised, is my first day on the legendary cabbage soup diet. I've been meaning to try it for many years, but somehow the time was never right (translation: I was able to find excuses). It's a short-term crash diet, based on eating unlimited quantities of a cabbage-based soup which costs more calories to digest than it provides, so you can eat enough to feel full but keep losing weight rapidly.

The diet is augmented by different added foods on each day. You eat as much of the soup as you want, and as much as you want of the other foods for the day - in my case, Day 1: Fruit (except bananas). In theory the selection of additional foods is carefully chosen to maintain your levels of vital chemicals so you don't get sick. I'm told the diet was originally developed by doctors to cleanse the system and reduce weight before heart surgery, but I haven't been able to find evidence or a listing of the "original" diet. There are a whole bunch of variations floating around on the basic recipe and schedule.

So this morning I went down to my fantastic Italian greengrocers, and came back with a carrier bag stuffed full of green things. After a lot of chopping, peeling and simmering, here's what it looks like: The bulk of my diet for the next week.

Actually, it's not bad at all. With loads of onion, celery and tomato in, it's got the base of a good stock mixture (and some of my own vegetable stock cubes in for a boost), and it's well seasoned with thyme, basil, bay and black pepper. It's really pretty tasty, although I've quickly found myself adding a bit of salt to each bowl or it really is bland.

Obviously there's not much in the way of effects today, although I have felt a bit up and down energy-wise, particularly as I missed breakfast (since I didn't have anything allowed by the diet in the house to eat) and then ate a lot at lunchtime. With heavy-digesting foods like this, it's important to spread them out through the day rather than eating big meals, as anything hard to digest brings your energy levels down for a while (the reason why people get sluggish in the afternoon when they eat big lunches).

My brain is already at work trying to screw things up, and I keep imagining that I'm craving chocolate or meat, very unlikely since my last "normal" meal was last night and that's really not time for your body to feel deprived. I have been enjoying the fruit enormously, experiencing the intense flavours and sweetness much more than I normally would, but I think that's largely psychological too. I've been drinking a lot of water and green tea, and the digestive workout seems to be making me quite thirsty. Otherwise I feel as good as ever, really. I'm even looking forward to a supper of fruit tonight when I settle in to watch a new episode of House.

Obviously, a crash diet isn't a longterm solution to weight loss. Right now my normal diet is pretty good - I'm mostly off the overprocessed rubbish foods, I eat a fair bit of veg and fruit, very little out of the freezer (except things I've cooked and frozen myself) and I'm reasonably good about sweets. Week on week I am losing a little bit of weight. It's just that the mountainous task (and stomach) ahead of me are making me feel pretty demotivated. Hopefully this quick boost will help me feel more motivated to be strict with myself and stick with the exercise.

Every new healthy food that you discover a liking for is another variety of alternative low-calorie food for you to use in your weekly meal plans. Many diets feel because they lack variety of flavors, so the more healthy variety you add the less you'll crave a change in diet. You may even play in the kitchen and create two or three great new recipes out of each new food you find.

5. Almost never combine eating with other activities. The only exception are family meals when some healthy conversation at the dinner table may be of more value than weight loss. You will almost always eat more if you're entertained while you eat.

It is important to keep your family and friends close while you are working on your weight loss efforts. Keep your support system close and take time to talk with people. Isolating yourself can undermine your weight loss efforts. Reach out and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

If they tell me that it's going to take 10 months to lose 10 pounds then I don't want to go there!
